There is a new format for all Oklahoma’s driver’s licenses. Driver’s license have two options non-compliant or  compliant, which is sometimes called a Real ID. Both work as legal driver’s licenses. A compliant driver’s license means that you brought in documents to prove your identity to government standards. Some form of federally complaint ID will be necessary for domestic air travel starting May 2025. Compliant and non-compliant driver’s licenses cost the same. A Real ID renewal (when it is already a Real ID and expiring) does not require any documentation to process – just yourself and your driver’s license.

When do I need the Real ID?

A compliant ID will be required by May 2025 to travel domestically or to get into federal buildings and military bases.  If you are using a non-compliant driver’s license after that date, you will have to have additional proof of identity such as a passport

What do I need to get the Real ID?

Follow the link for a checklist of all needed documentation. Copies of documents must be physical, unfortunately electronic copies do not work.

All names on accepted documents must match and it must be your legal first name legal last name and any legal suffixes.

passport, united states, documentation

You are not required to switch from a drivers license to a Real ID. Oklahoma Driver’s License can be renewed up to 11 months early.  Four or eight years will be added to the expiration date regardless of when you renew it.  The cost for a four year renewal is $38.50. An eight year is $77. All licenses are free for those over 65.

Replacements

For a replacement drivers license all that is needed is an old license. If the old license is lost an additional form needs to be filled out at the tag agency.

Updates

For change of address no proof is required as long as you are not switching from non-compliant to compliant. For name change, documentation is required. We need the marriage license, divorce decree, or separate court certified name change document. Divorce decrees must state you are resuming your desired name.

Out of State

Out of state drivers licenses can now be done at our tag agency.  Additional documentation needs to be brought for the transaction to be completed. A primary ID (other than the driver’s license), the out of state license, proof of OK residency, social security number, and if needed any name change documents. These would be needed if the primary ID and the name to be entered on the OK license are different. A comprehensive list can be found at the link below.  It will cost $42.50 for a four year and $81 for an eight year license.

First License

Our location can now create a license for the first time or a permit for anyone exempt from the written test. Extra documentation will be needed and can be found at the link below as well as the certificate of completing the course. If the written test is required then either a third party testing location or a trip to Service Oklahoma is required before visiting our facility. Our facility does NOT do the driving test. The actual printing and creation of the license after a passed test can be done at our location. The cost for the permit is $42.50 and the intermediate license is $25

Oklahoma Work Zone Safety Course

Starting November 1, 2023 all residents younger than 18 years old now need to complete a supplemental safety course before completing their first license. The course is free and accessed online for completion with it taking an average of 45 – 60 minutes to finish. Once the course is completed you need to obtain the certificate for us to scan in at the office. This can be scanned in during the permit processing or the intermediate licensing AT THE LATEST. Failure to complete the course means that the intermediate license can not be processed.
